Shawano Defeats Southwest For First-Ever League Championship
Two days after pitching a complete game victory in
the Class AA state championship game, Levi O'Kimosh pitched five scoreless
innings to lead Shawano past Green Bay Southwest 6-3 in the Fox
River Valley American Legion Baseball League title game on Thurs.,
Aug. 8.
O'Kimosh allowed just two hits and walked one before
giving way to Mike Rickert who pitched the final two innings as Shawano
finished the season 33-10 overall. O'Kimosh pitched a complete game in
Tuesday's 6-3 win over Merrill in the state title game and also threw an
inning in Shawano's 14-12 loss to Merrill on Tuesday to earn Class AA
state tournament MVP honors.
It was the first league title for Shawano, which
is in its fourth season in the 31-team league. The title also marked the
fourth straight year the North Division champion has brought home the
league crown after De Pere won the previous three pennants.
Shawano took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on a
sacrifice fly by Nate Ejnik, a run-scoring double by T.J. Arrowood and a
two-run single by Corey Jones. Jones and Rickert both stole home in the
fifth inning to push Shawano's lead to 6-0. Southwest added three unearned
runs in the sixth, but Rickert worked out of the jam to hold Shawano's
lead.
